LOVE WHAT IS IT WORTH
By Rev. Hansen
Ask yourself, What is love truly worth today?
Turn in your Bibles to 1 Corinthians chapter 13
In 1 Corinthians 13 KJV it SAYS:
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
How many times have we read this but never really took the time to understand its words and meaning? If I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages without learning them, and could speak in every language there is, but didn't love others, I would only be making noise.
How many of you today are just making noises in your relationships? You’re just going with the flow never really learning to express yourselves with love. You see saints; love is the key to happiness. We have to have it, for we share a part of ourselves when we speak to someone that we love.
Love is that essential key in all communication. If I were to yell at the top of my lungs all day long in anger, you’d probably throw me out on the street. You might even do as my mother used to do to us kids when we were full of rage and anger; she’d toss water in our faces just to cool us off. Talk about a cold awakening ... amen? But what if you were to hear love coming from my lips then you’d listen intently to every word that was said.
You see, where there is anger, there has to be God's love in order to have forgiveness..
Where there is sadness, love has to be there also. Love is all around us if only look for it. Amen
When we’re down on our luck we tend to talk to someone about our situation. If that person didn’t have love – "God's Love", then there would not be any form of communication what so ever.
They wouldn't be able to understand our voice, it would be like tinkling brass, just noise.
Anger, talking to Anger can never listen. We only make noise, trying to out do other's noise. They become a sounding brass, or tinkling cymbals, playing out of time, out of pitch and way off beat.
What does that sounds like? Hand any small child some sticks and a tin can and let them beat on it till you find your nerves becoming unraveled. This is what we sound like when we’re talking in anger. We become off pitch, and out of tune to those who listen to us. Just as we turned a deaf ear to the child with the can and their banging, so too do we tune off and tune out to those who are yelling and screaming in anger.
When Jesus walked the earth, he walked and talked in love. Even when he was in the temple and tossing the merchants out on their ear, for disgracing his father’s temple he did it with love. He had the love for his Fathers House. It doesn’t matter where in the word you look, Jesus was always helping someone, always communicating with love and offering himself unselfishly to those in need. Even in spirit our Father is near to give us his love and understanding.
Saints I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happy with out God's love in my life today.
I can’t remember a time that love wasn’t there someplace. O sure there were times I was angry, but generally speaking there was always that other person who gave me and showed me their love. Even if it was something as simple as a smile, or a friendly word of encouragement when I needed it. Through the efforts of others I leaned what love was truly all about, and how to show love to someone today.
Today we can share love freely with one another, tho we never stop to see just how important our love really is. We take it all for granted. Wives need the love from their husbands, Husbands need the love from their wives, and children need the love from their parents. Where would we be if love was not in the picture.
Children, let us not forget that when ever we speak to someone we have to have the voice of love in order to be heard less we become noise from the sounding brass. You may have all the faith in the world, but with out love we are nothing. We could give everything we own to the needy, but with out love it wouldn’t matter. We’d just be cleaning out the closets with no emotion, it’s just another chore that has to be done.
Love is patient and kind. It’s never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty, selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not being irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges against someone. True love will hardly notice when someone do it wrong.
If you love someone you are saying to them that you will be loyal to them no matter what the cost. You will always believe in them, always expect the best of them, and always stand your ground when defending them. Love goes on forever it has no boundaries, it’s limitless!
There are three things that we all share in common --faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love.
I ask that you show your love to others as you go out today by sharing a smile or a friendly wave, let them know your cup is overflowing with the love of Christ. Let it spill over on them today. And watch the reactions of those you meet on the street.
Let us pray
Holy Father help us to understand the love you have for us. Your word says that no man has ever seen a love greater than the love you have for us. You gave your only son so that he may die for us on the cross. You sacrificed your own so that we may live and know your true love today.
Lord bless those who have come here today to hear this message encourage them, guide them O' Lord and love them so that they may love and know your love in return.
In the name of Jesus we pray,
AMEN and AMEN
